How Cake Clothing Co. came about…
My artist statement:
Creative expression is food to my soul. I dabble in many mediums but find that sewing is what I am most passionate about. I am a self-taught sewer and began sewing at the age of sixteen after inheriting my Grandmother’s sewing machine.
Unknowing to me, she had written my name on the backside of the machine before she passed. This was both a great surprise and a great honor that continues to encourage me. As I sat at that old Singer I felt at home and that machine is still one of my most prized possessions. It is extremely rewarding to express my creative energy by sewing, knowing that without her belief in me it may have never come about.
My current collection of appliquéd wares began in 2005 after the birth of my first child. A new creative muse surfaced and my love of sewing and painting merged into what I call ‘painting with fabric’. Cake Clothing Co. was established in January of 2007 with the encouragement of my family to share my designs with others.
I love to sketch a design on paper and be able to see my vision come to life with fabric. I now have two young children who continue to provide me with much inspiration. I find myself trying new designs that are motivated by their current interests while always remaining true to my style of soft, bright colors and clean lines.
My hope is to bring a smile to those purchase my work and to help them find a love in handmade.

Look at your work space! That is awesome, I want to be a craft person too!!!!

That “I’m a material Girl” word wall art would be the icing on the Cake for your work room =)
